My Story
Hello, I'm Janet and I am very excited to be running my own business as a Foot Health Practitioner. I have spent twenty years with the Ambulance Service where I worked as a Paramedic. As you can imagine, I have seen lots of feet and have realised that many people, such as the elderly or infirm struggle to look after their own feet. Sometimes their mobility is affected by pain or infection in their feet or toes. Many of these people are embarrassed by the condition of their feet and do not tell carers or family until their feet are in a poor or painful condition. Sadly too, the NHS no longer offers routine podiatry care and people are advised to seek help privately.
This is where I can help.
I am an experienced, Level 4 Foot Health Practitioner and you can come to me to get the best care for your feet. I have a clinic in beautiful Abbotsbury but I also want to help those who find it difficult to leave their homes to attend appointments. Therefore I can do home visits, but strictly for the housebound only.
I am a qualified Foot Health Practitioner (DipFH) and have studied to a level four diploma. I studied with the SMAE Institute, credit rated by the Queen Margaret University and I am a Member of the College of Foot Health Practitioners (MCFHP) and a Member of the Association of Foot Health Practitioners (MAFHP). I am fully insured and have a current DBS. I am also a member of the Dorchester Chamber for Business and have a PGDip in Clinical Health Research.
I use equipment that has been pressure sterilised in an autoclave and bagged to keep sterile for your treatment. I use an assortment of instruments such as nippers, files, curettes and scalpels along with creams and potions to soften your skin and nails. I can offer treatments for nail conditions or verrucae and can protect painful areas of your feet with padding techniques. When I see you for the first time I will take your medical history and gain consent for your treatment. I will offer a neurovascular check to ensure there is no peripheral disease caused by nerve damage or restricted blood flow and I can also keep an eye on the diabetic foot which is always at risk. If I feel it is necessary I can refer you to another healthcare professional for advanced treatments.
Being used to shift work within the ambulance service I am happy to see you in the evenings or at weekends if this is better for you. If you book online you will see my availability but I may block out times that I am not available over these days. If you need to be seen earlier or later than these times, please contact me and, depending on the circumstances, I will consider this too.
My clinic is based in Abbotsbury along the coast road halfway between Weymouth and Bridport. Many of you will be no more than a 20 minute drive away.
I live just to the West of Dorchester and for the housebound, I am happy to travel as far as Yetminster in the North, Puddletown in the East, Weymouth in the South and Bridport in the West. I will however, consider other areas depending on my availability so please email or call me to find out (an extra £5 mileage fee may be charged for distances over 15 miles).
My charges are between £40 and £60.
For your first appointment I will take your registration details and medical history, including what medicines you take, and ask you to sign a consent form. Then I will look at your feet and carry out a neurovascular check. This is to ensure that you have no arterial or venous issues that may need referring to your GP. Diabetics are more at risk as a loss of sensation or blood flow is common as the diabetes progresses and feet need extra observation . If you are diabetic I will also carry out a diabetic examination of the feet looking for possible ulcer risks such as changes of the skin structure. Then, once the checks are done I will treat your feet with care depending on what I find and what you would like me to do. This will cost £50 for the first appointment with total footcare (£55 for home visits)
For any follow up appointments, I may ask only if there have been any changes to your health or medication and then I can treat your feet, meaning any follow up treatments will be quicker.
I will charge you £40 for follow up appointments if you need only a toenail trim and file (£45 for home visits)
I will charge £50-£60 for follow up total footcare appointments that need extra treatments such as corn or callus removal along with the toenail trim and file.
All foot treatments are finished with cream applied and a foot massage.
After foot treatments, if you wish, I can cut and file fingernails for an added fee of £10
